Humour is the golden frame around the mirror. ![]() Gerrit was born 1st of Januari 1979. As a kid he already did imitations of Belgian comedian Urbanus. Later on he discovered the spoken work performances by Henry Rollins and the comedy of George Carlin and Bill Hicks. It was clear that Gerrit was bound to end up on stage himself one day. In 2002 Gerrit started drawing the weekly webcomic "Freddy" (www.shellac.be) in which, besides the obligatory tit-jokes, he sometimes expresses vitriolic social criticism. After Belgian teen Joe Van Holsbeeck was murdered over an MP3 player in 2006, Gerrit decided that some stand-alone jokes weren't enough and he had to get on stage. This, however, was easier said than done. Aside from two or three bars, there was no real "comedy scene" in Belgium and finding a stage open for comedy was difficult. The urge to become a comedian could not be tempered, so Gerrit just got to work and organised his first gig himself in the city of Leuven. Ever since that first time on stage, this DIY-mentality and his motto "Don't give in. Don't give up. Give everything you've got." have made Gerrit one of the most original Flemish comedians. His perseverance gets Gerrit places. He could be seen in an episode of the Belgian version of Last Comic Standing (Comedy Casino Cup), recorded a pilot for a humouristic news show and put on a monthly comedy show in Leuven for 3 years before leaving it to others. These shows are now well known in the Belgian comedy scene and have put Leuven on the map as a great city to perform for new comedians. In 2009 Gerrit decided he wanted to visit the birthplace of stand-up comedy: America. Armed with a plane ticket and two addresses of places to sleep, he departed on his first US adventure. The result was his "Live & Learn"-tour which consisted of 9 gigs in both Seattle and Los Angeles. This made Gerrit the first Belgian comedian ever to tour the US. Reactions were positive and so it was decided to go back in 2010. During the "Discomfort"-tour Gerrit performed 21 gigs in 21 days in the cities of Pittsburgh, Seattle and Los Angeles. The tour was documented in the 45min documentary "Discomfort - stepping out of the comfort zone", which can be watched on the media page of this website. At the end of 2010 Gerrit also recorded a 15min set for Belgian television show Comedy Casino. Next to the regular gigs in Belgium and Holland, a third US tour was part of Gerrit's 2011 agenda. The "Do you like me yet"-tour focussed on the east coast and brought him to Seattle, San Francisco and Los Angeles. Gerrit brings rather edgy comedy (probably to compensate for his small genitals) with a no bullshit attitude. Poetic stories are for pussies. He has no solutions, no answers, and he is wrong about most of the things he says, but there is always a dick joke at the end! |
| Gerrit is a 100% independant comic. No middle man, no extra costs, no bullshit. |
